To the editors:

Reading "The Yeast of Our Problems" (January 22) led me to recall the allergies my baby developed at three months of age. We immediately suspected the DPT shot as the triggering cause. After visiting several traditional pediatricians (all of whom offered no hope or treatment other than steroid treatment) we turned to a homeopathic doctor, Dr. Dane Shepherd, who practices nutritional and osteopathic medicine in addition to homeopathic medicine. After a year, our baby no longer suffered from his initial allergic and asthmatic problems. In the meantime Dr. Shepherd had also successfully treated my wife and I, as well as many of our friends and acquaintances, for chronic problems.

Alternative medical treatments such as homeopathy, acupuncture, and nutritional therapy offer much for chronic illness sufferers and I congratulate the Reader for its coverage of these subjects. While these treatments are not quick, they do offer permanent cures with no side effects, unlike traditional medicine.
