Almost Atlanta

When: Sundays. Continues through Jan. 3 2010

The concept here is that each week the six members of Almost Atlanta do long-form improv inspired by a particular artistic discipline, with guest practitioners of that discipline contributing performances. "Music" was the theme of the show I caught, and several singers performed, both live and on video--notably, two audience plants who interrupted a scene with a heartfelt back-and-forth ballad. The improv didn't feel anchored to music, though. The ideas seemed random, depending more on a word or gesture than any other consideration. The cast was uneven and the few recurring characters remained undeveloped, but at just 45 minutes the show came across as light and fun. --Ryan Hubbard
