Almost Atlanta The Short List (Theater) Recommended

When: Saturdays. Continues through Sept. 22 2012

If not for those few seconds of zero gravity at the beginning of each scene, it would've been easy to forget that the fully improvised two-act play I saw was improv at all. Based on a theme (truth) and setting (an office) suggested by guest playwright Lisa Scott (who also consulted with the cast between acts), Almost Atlanta's premiere performance was full of razor-sharp dialogue, nuanced characters, and a compelling plot arc. One almost suspects a setup, but that would be selling short the veteran ensemble, which includes TJ Jagodowski, Noah Gregoropoulos, and Rebecca Sohn. On opening night Gregoropoulos played a wonky law clerk committed to speaking the literal truth—and successfully rescued a premise seemingly killed off by Jim Carrey in Liar Liar. —Keith Griffith
