Oak Park resident Bernadette Doran was a McGraw-Hill editor and an advertising executive before she read Imagineering for Health, by bioenergetic healer Serge Kahili King, and dropped it all to study Hawaiian Huna healing and Reiki with King and others. After seven years of commuting to Kauai, she's a certified healer who teaches the seven principles of Huna to folks who want to tap into the "instant healing power" of imagination, words, and energy. "These are timeless principles that can be used by anyone," Doran says, rattling them off: "The world is what you think it is; there are no limits; energy flows where attention goes; now is the moment of power; to love is to be happy with; all power comes from within; and effectiveness is the measure of truth." At least three of these assertions sound dicey to me, but Doran says Huna, like yin and yang, is a matter of balance--in this case, of power and love. Her workshop, Learn Hawaiian Healing Techniques to Empower Kids, is intended to show teachers and students how to tap into "loving aloha energy" and "the amazing power of the mind-body connection," but is open to all. It's the kickoff event in the "Master Your Life" series of free monthly workshops sponsored by ChicagoHealers.com and Borders Books & Music. It starts at 11 AM on Saturday, October 11, at Borders, 49 S. Waukegan in Deerfield. Call 847-559-1999 for more information.
