American Made Movie

Rated G 82 minutes 2013

I'm surprised that a distributor picked up this documentary about the U.S. manufacturing industry for theatrical release—it feels like something you'd watch in a high school economics class. As an educational film, though, it's quite successful, explaining concepts like trade deficits and supply and demand with enough visual pizzazz to hold the interest of a lay audience. This argues that U.S. companies could do a lot for the economy if they created more domestic manufacturing jobs instead of opening factories overseas—a position that should find agreement with all but the staunchest proponents of free trade. Nathaniel Thomas McGill and Vincent Vittorio directed.
