An American Haunting

I'm guessing Donald Sutherland agreed to do this tedious horror flick because he heard Sissy Spacek was on board, and Spacek agreed to do it because she heard Sutherland was on board. They play an elderly couple in 1818 Tennessee whose daughter goes all Linda Blair on them after Sutherland's kicked out of the local church for the crime of usury. Because the narrative is incoherent, there's no way to generate any suspense, so director Courtney Solomon (Dungeons & Dragons) is reduced to the standard multiplex stratagem of startling us with blasts of noise. PG-13, 90 min.
