Androcles and the Lion Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Feb. 27 2012

George Bernard Shaw's lightweight morality play gets a better-than-warranted staged reading from ShawChicago. The 1912 script riffs on Aesop's classic fable about a fugitive slave who removes a thorn from a lion's paw only to confront the same beast later, at the Coliseum, when he's scheduled to be eaten by it. Shaw buffs might appreciate this rare presentation. For the rest of us, there are some thought-provoking discussions about faith and sacrifice and a few chuckles. But Kevin Christopher Fox's first-rate cast is the real attraction. —Dan Jakes
