ARFTCo's Almost-Has-a-Witty-Title (We Really Mean It This Time!) Chicago Christmas Spectacular Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Dec. 27 2008

There are two versions of this parody holiday show by a Reasonable Facsimile Theatre Company: one for Friday and one for Saturday, with only a few sketches that are played both nights. Why do it this way? Hard to tell. There's no embarrassment of riches here. Much of the material is in dire need of editing--particularly a tedious parody of TV's Lost that ends the Saturday show. And the actors, most of whom are energetic but unfocused, clearly would have benefited from having fewer sketches to learn. The show does contain some gems, notably a Chanukah version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, featuring a fine comic performance from Steve Hickson. But most of the material validates that old axiom, less is more. --Jack Helbig
