Armin

Written and directed by Ognjen Svilicic, this intimate Croatian drama (2007) about a despairing Bosnian father (Emir Hadzihafizbegovic, whose face was made for movies) and his introverted teenage son (Armin Omerovic) is suffused with tenderness and wry humor but diminished by a soft ending. Father and son journey from their remote village to Zagreb so that the boy can participate in a casting call for a German feature, but the strapping, inarticulate youth is too old for the part, not to mention camera shy. The father lobbies the German crew relentlessly until finally getting their attention, with unforeseen results. In English and subtitled Croatian, Bosnian, and German. 82 min.
