Jules Verne's novel has been warped into a standardized Jackie Chan vehicle, with bumbling Steve Coogan as global adventurer Phileas Fogg and Chan as his servant, Passepartout. Because this is Chan's show the screenwriters have grafted on a subplot wherein Passepartout is a Chinese agent returning a stolen gem to his people, which requires him to battle ninjas and drag his master across the Himalayas (a shortcut Verne overlooked). Like the Oscar-winning 1956 version, this includes numerous star cameos, some of them fun (Kathy Bates, Sammo Hung, Luke and Owen Wilson), some of them not (Rob Schneider, Arnold Schwarzenegger). Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer) directed; with Cecile de France and Jim Broadbent. PG, 125 min.
