A small, cultish religious sect in rural Kentucky falls under the spell of an insidious new member who claims to be a prophet. This low-budget psychological thriller aspires to the quiet terror of Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, but since first-time director Joshua Overbay (working from a script by his wife, Ginny Lee Overbay) lacks Durkin's insight and control over tone, the results just feel tedious. The amateurish acting is another problem: no one onscreen seems even remotely like a religious fundamentalist, and the would-be prophet behaves more like an aggressive car salesman. The bucolic settings look pretty, though. 86 min.
