Attack at Bikini Werewolf Beach: Part 2

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through May 25 2014

To succeed, a lampoon needs a clear target. And that's precisely what's missing from Robot vs. Dinosaur's amorphous new musical. It's intended as a lowbrow mashup of 1950s beach blanket and horror movies. A group of squeaky-clean teens have their summer ruined by a heartless industrialist hoping to turn their favorite beach into a silver mine, a pack of ghost beatnik bikers searching for a lost love, and a marauding werewolf. But the ensemble-created show displays only a glancing knowledge of its source materials; too often self-consciously hokey theatricality and venereal disease jokes stand in for meaningful—or amusing—genre commentary. Director Nat Topping's cast deliver mostly broad, fidgety performances, and the few uncredited original songs come and go before making much impact. —Justin Hayford
