The unmusical version of Mame, with Rosalind Russell as the old girl whose obnoxious eccentricity is presented as an affirmation of life (1958). Would that some of that life had adhered to the direction of Morton DaCosta; his shallow, theatrical staging murders whatever vitality there is in the overcalculated material. With Forrest Tucker, Coral Browne, Fred Clark, and the unfortunate Peggy Cass. 143 min.
