Longtime local chain known for its heart-healthy spinach pie. There are also stuffed pizzas as well as salads, panini, and pastas.
Over the years Bacino's Lincoln Park flagship location has gone from a decor of polished wood to something best described as funky-decrepit. The Italian dishes have always been pedestrian, and the thin-crust pizza isn't all that much better. But the stuffed spinach remains famous enough that Bacino's can justifiably boast of offering "America's first heart-healthy pizza." It comes with mushrooms and the restaurant's trademark fresh tomato sauce, and the crust has what it takes to stand up to what amounts to a steaming bowl of cheesy creamed spinach. Add onions, black olives, and fresh tomatoes and it's distinctive even by Chicago standards.
