Directed by John M. Stahl, this 1932 feature is the first (and, by reputation, the best) of three film versions of Fannie Hurst's novel. Irene Dunne plays the sweet-tempered "kept woman" of a married man (John Boles), who remains in the shadows for 20 years. With George Meeker, ZaSu Pitts, and Jane Darwell.
