Bad Guys in Suits The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays. Continues through June 12 2009

The title suggests a parody, but this Hobo Junction production of Josh Zagoren's musical comedy is more of an homage, serviceably evoking the noirish look and pauseless pacing of early gangster flicks. The women (as well as a flapper drag queen in heat who coos, "You never know until you try") best exude the genre's spirit, though the men wisecrack dexterously. Director Andrew Marchetti, whose cameo as a congenial butcher/body disposer is one of the show's highlights, does a lot with a thin plot--mostly flashbacks of a night gone wrong for hitmen--and a small space. The five-piece band, the Panda Feathers, are period-perfect. --Ryan Hubbard
