Bar food and a few tapas; come for the sangria.
The back wall doubles as a movie screen at this Wrigleyville spot, tastefully decorated like a Spanish tasca, or local gathering place. A glass-paneled garage door opens onto the sidewalk in nice weather, and cowhide-framed mirrors hang above cafe seating along the wall. The room is softly lit by colorful blown-glass fixtures, creating an ambience that demands more than the plastic baskets and souffle cups currently used for serving. The tapas menu includes basics like shrimp, mushrooms, and calamari -- all prepared simply, with garlic and olive oil, and served piping hot in mini cast-iron pans. The rest of the menu is made up of bar food: quesadillas, burgers, and chicken sandwiches. The highlight may be the sangria, loaded with chunks of fresh fruit.
