Barron y cuenta nueva

In this embarrassing mess (2002, 90 min.) by Venezuelan director Henrique Lazo, a middle-aged woman is jolted from the comfort of her life in a gated community by the discovery that her husband has been cheating on her. She subsequently becomes embroiled in a dalliance with a soap star and a mystery surrounding the death of the mistress of a high-ranking government minister; all the while looters and cops battle in the streets of Caracas. Lazo may have social satire in mind, but the inept script, hokey dialogue, and hysterical acting bring to mind the lesser work of Ed Wood. In Spanish with subtitles.
