Playwright Richard Kalinoski takes the Turks' attempted annihilation of the Armenians in 1915 as his subject in this 1995 play, a winner of multiple awards, as two of its survivors struggle to put their memories of slaughtered kinsmen behind them and make a new life in America. The play's urgency is enhanced by Kalinoski's eloquent dialogue, which distills the postholocaust experience and transcends any limitations of time or place. The accomplished script ultimately mitigates the classroom ambience of this flawed but capable La Costa Theatre Company production. --Mary Shen Barnidge a Through 12/17: Thu-Sat 8 PM, Sun 2 and 6 PM, no show Thu 11/23, Trap Door Theatre, 1655 W.
