Beautiful City Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through April 3 2010

Tyrannized by a ruthless real estate developer, a spineless architect contracts a mysterious illness and lands in the hospital, where a flaky medical volunteer hooks him up with a garbage-eating convenience store clerk/social justice crusader who also happens to be a witch with healing powers. The witch's dirtbag former brother-in-law steals porn and drugs from the developer's soulless, multimillionaire mother, who deals in the stuff. And then the witch nearly turns the dirtbag's son into a bird. If Canadian playwright George F. Walker intended his minimally coherent tale as satire, he should've given it an at least tangential link to reality. Director Rob Chambers's decision to have his cast overplay virtually every moment does the script no favors. --Justin Hayford
