Bedwin Hacker

Operating from a base in a remote part of Tunisia, Kalt, the roving hacker heroine of director Nadia El Fani's first feature, interrupts European television with Arabic messages signed with her trademark, a cartoon camel. Her female ex, a French secret agent, suspects her involvement and asks Kalt's current lover, a male reporter, for help in tracking her down. There are some clever hacks—a webcam is hijacked and used to bug its owner; when the reporter tries to break into Kalt's computer, her door locks him in—but the film is less interesting as caper cinema than as a justification of cyber-vandalism as a weapon of the powerless. In French and Arabic with subtitles. 103 min.
