Beirut, Laetitia Sadier All Ages Early Warnings (Music) Recommended Soundboard

When: Mon., Sept. 26, 7 p.m. 2011

On his latest and best album, The Rip Tide (Pompeii), Zach Condon of Beirut seems to have outgrown his dilettantism. Though his arrangements still reflect his curiosity about music from around the world—Balkan brass, chanson, mariachi, banda—he's apparently decided to let his songs speak for themselves. Fortunately he's written his strongest batch of tunes yet, with lyrics about his New Mexico birthplace and concerns close to home ("And this is the house where I / Can be alone / Be unknown now," he sings on the moody title track) rather than his varyingly fictionalized globe-trotting adventures. See Sunday for more on opener Laetitia Sadier. —Peter Margasak
