Critics can be thin-skinned motherfuckers, so I hope that resident Reader food guy Mike Sula doesn't take umbrage when I say that he is woefully off point about a crucial appetizer at the Lakeview restaurant Fish Bar. Argument: In an April 2011 review, Sula called a mixture of breaded and fried lemon slices, jalapeños, and onions "interesting but ultimately inedible," citing the fact that it "dripped with grease."

Scofflaw chef Mickey Neely was inspired to create this delectable behemoth in tribute to the stacked "supertortas" served at Pilsen's Doña Torta Chilanga. Depending on whom you ask, the name means "groovy" or "sexy lady," but either way, the former Longman & Eagle cook combines the meats from his three on-menu sandwiches into this utterly depraved nine-deck monstrosity containing braised brisket, lard-fried pork belly, and roasted pork loin, plus pork jus, white bean puree, pimenton aioli, butter, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, sriracha, cilantro, whole-grain mustard, creme fraiche, pickled cauliflower, pickled red onion, and chicken liver mousse—all on a toasted telera from nearby Panaderia La Estrella.

Local "pop-up" barbecue operation Brimstone BBQ, run by Arman Mabry and Mike Tsoulos of the band Rabid Rabbit and their friend Stacey Egan, has been active since March 2012, turning up at the Hideout, Star Lounge, and the Continental, among other places. I've been a fan of Mabry's backyard barbecuing for more than ten years—we were in a band together in 2001—so when I heard he'd scaled up, I had to check it out.
