Second Saturday Silent Cinema at Music Box Theatre

Critics' Picks

Also a prime contender for best sibilant name, this monthly series joins the Silent Film Society of Chicago's long-running Silent Summer Film Festival in introducing silent cinema to a new generation of moviegoers. Back in the 1920s, the city's biggest movie palaces presented their big-screen attractions with live orchestral accompaniment; that's rarely an option anymore, but Music Box has landed the services of organist Dennis Scott, one of the city's most skilled film accompanists. Coming attractions include G.W. Pabst's erotic drama Pandora's Box (1929) on July 14 and Lotte Reiniger's pioneering feature-length animation The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) on August 11.
