Jeffrey Solberg thinks Naperville's ready for some resident professional theater. "There's a population of 138,000, high income and education levels, and a downtown core with restaurants and clubs," he says. "It's a microcosm of Chicago out here." Solberg, a Des Plaines native who produced a half dozen off- and off-off-Broadway shows in New York in the 1980s, is about to add Shadowfax Theatre Company to the way-off-Broadway Naperville mix. He says the nonprofit Equity company will start off with a season of two or three original plays. The first, Men I'm Not Married To: The Words of Dorothy Parker, opens this weekend in Naperville High School's 235-seat Little Theatre. It's a one-woman show composed of selections culled from Parker's satirical prose and poetry by veteran Chicago actor Jen Engstrom, who'll play Parker, and Shadowfax co-creative director Tim Clue. If things go according to plan, by next season Shadowfax could be in its own home, trading shows with the likes of the Steppenwolf Studio and Victory Gardens. Men I'm Not Married To opens with a benefit performance at 8 Saturday, September 28. Tickets for the fund-raiser are $50 and include valet parking and postshow food and drinks at Naperville's Copa Cubana restaurant. The run continues at 8 Fridays and Saturdays and at 3 Sundays through October 20 at 440 W. Aurora in Naperville. Tickets are $20, $12 for students and seniors. Call 630-548-4390.
