To the editor,

You managed to miss a lot of the crucial issues in your article on the protests against The Real World [August 3].

Although you touched upon resistance to media conglomerates, you failed to mention that residents are extremely angry that the Chicago Police Department has chosen to protect Viacom, a multinational corporation, over its own constituents.

This waste of city resources is, unfortunately, all too "real."

You touched upon the illegal and unconstitutional arrests of those practicing their First Amendment rights by using sidewalk chalk or "shouting phrases and banging a drum to show displeasure with the complainant's television show." However, you failed to mention the innocent victim of police brutality who was hospitalized with a severe head wound after being illegally arrested and denied medical treatment for nine hours.

It is the CPD working hand in hand with the Agents of Viacom that resorts to violence, not protesters.
