Black and Blue The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 3 2011

Sports-crazed, pathologically rivalrous brothers Jake and Tommy are fanatically devoted to different Chicago major league baseball teams. So each year during the Crosstown Classic they occupy their long-suffering father's sports bar and carry on like opposing military commanders hoping only for the other's humiliating defeat, driving the bar's regulars to distraction and nearly destroying their already tenuous relationship. The Factory Theater's newest home-grown comedy is full of trenchant observations about Chicago's sports-bar culture, and director Nick Digilio assembles a nearly flawless cast. But Digilio, who cowrote the show with Anthony Tournis, struggles to keep things moving forward. Most scenes reiterate rather than complicate the brothers' relationship, and a slew of incidental characters keep forcing the story off track. —Justin Hayford

Price: previews $10, then $15-$20
