Blame the Victim

I'm afraid I missed the point of [Mitzi-Jill] Rapkin's story on [Catalina] Romero ["Atlas Shrugged," June 14]. That we shouldn't trust contractors? That government won't help us against fraudulent businesses? That it is impossible to get legal contracts enforced?

What I got out of it was that an illiterate woman with 15 children did not have one she would trust to help her, even though she knew she was signing contracts she didn't understand. She was a member of a church, but did not trust her church leaders to help her, even though she admits she didn't understand anything she signed. To me, it looks like the only one who made out on this unfortunate incident is the writer, Mitzi-Jill Rapkin, whom you surely paid.
