If you ever wondered what now-defunct intenso girl group Mika Miko might sound like if they took it from a 10 down to a 6 and started singing instead of scream-barking, may I introduce you to Bleached? When Mika Miko disbanded in 2009, sisters Jennifer and Jessica Clavin began making music together, paused while Jennifer moved to New York for a sec to be in Cold Cave (she quit), and then got serious about Bleached. They may not sound much different from a lot of that sun-fried-guitar, Letterman-jacket-wearing, post-punk doo-wop the Opening Ceremony fashion crowd is loving these days, but their overexposed Polaroid sound is the real deal, not the app. To be fair, it's probably best to mention there's a guy or two in the band as well, though the delinquent blond sisters who seem like they don't gotta be nowhere steal the show: Jessica with her slightly mopey tough-girl bass and Jennifer with her frisky knee socks and guitar, singing like she gets in the backseat with boys she shouldn't and comes to her senses just before a trip around second base turns into third. —Liz Armstrong This is My Fist opens.
