Dear Reader,

Hurray to the Reader and to theater critic Lawrence Bommer for taking a stand against characters in plays who smoke [Theater, May 20]! Yes, smoking among fictional characters must be stopped! How gutsy of Mr. Bommer to finally speak up on behalf of we real people! What a fine example of the incisive commentary that makes Reader theater criticism so insightful! I only hope you will expand this crusade into movies and books as well. Personally, I can no longer stand to go to a bookstore, because the literature section is so filled with smoking. Bravo! Brilliant!

Lawrence Bommer responds:

Mr. Leopardi manages to miss my point by a galaxy or two. Theater is live and smoking kills.
