Slightly upscale sushi near the North/Damen/Milwaukee intersection.
This slender slice of a room, nestled between Cafe Absinthe and D'Vine in the alley off Damen, isn't as upscale as some of the city's other sushi contenders (Heat, Mirai), but with its halogen sconces and techno-pop, it's hardly a hole-in-the-wall. The menu offers the standard array of nigiri plus a few questionable innovations such as a seared tuna steak with asparagus served in a soupy soy sauce with a messy nest of curly noodles piled on top. The dragon roll was also a disappointment, rolled so loose and sliced so thin that it fell apart when I tried to eat it. The sushi itself is fresh, and the miso soup is cleverly served with the scallions, tofu, and seaweed resting on a small lid on top of the bowl.
