Blue Nativity Free New Review (Theater and Comedy) Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Fri., Dec. 18 2009

Now in its eighth annual incarnation, this stripped-down traveling Nativity play uses music and ten-foot-tall puppets with crescent-moon faces to evoke something even more ancient than the birth of Jesus: the primal theogony that lurks deep in the DNA of all religion. Quest Theatre Ensemble stilt-walks through the naves of local churches, offering a performance that's at once respectful and surreal. Sahara Glasner's musical narration includes original songs and traditional hymns, the latter blending hauntingly with the church settings and supplying a familiar backdrop for the alien visages of the puppets. --Keith Griffith
