Bonobo (DJ set), Papa G Recommended Member Picks Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard

When: Sun., Jan. 4, 9 p.m. 2009

On his recordings, Bonobo (aka Simon Green) doesn’t seem too concerned with getting a crowd moving—he’d probably be happy if you bobbed your head a little while you wait for the bong to come back around. His latest album, Days to Come (Ninja Tune), layers deep bass, scratchy vinyl atmospherics, and blunted boom-bap beats into instrumentals that combine the depth and ambition of vintage trip-hop with the hazy good-times vibe of similarly old-school Cali backpacker rap. From what I’ve heard, Bonobo directs a little more energy at the dance floor when he DJs, spinning quirky, genre-agnostic sets as likely to inspire booty shaking as crate-digger jealousy.
