Breakfast Club: The Totally 80s Musical! Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays. Continues through March 25 2010

Though it waffles between tribute and satire, Jason Chin's adaptation of The Breakfast Club not only brings John Hughes's classic 1985 film to life but makes it burst into song. As "a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal" sit in detention at Shermer High School, they reveal their most intimate feelings in the form of melodramatic monologues and delightfully tacky 80s ballads. The angst in the forbidden love between Andy, the popular wrestler, and Allison, the quirky loner, feels just right set to Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Jeremiah Howe shows his versatility, pulling out his air guitar and doing the Molly Ringwald dance, as resident badass John Bender. --Marissa Oberlander
