Breaking the Silence: Truth and Lies in the War on Terror

This 2003 video makes no pretense at objectivity: the opening sequence pairs President Bush's praise for “freedom's power” with images of charred corpses. John Pilger uses a standard mix of documentary footage and talking heads to argue that the war on terror is really a front for “America's plan to dominate all the world” and that the condemnation of unprovoked invasions at Nuremberg qualifies Bush and Blair as war criminals. The horrifying details trump analysis here: U.S. funding of the mujahideen who paved the way for Taliban rule in Afghanistan predated the Soviet invasion, and today much of the country is not “free” but in the hands of brutal warlords who traffic in drugs and sometimes rape children. 51 min.
