Broke-ology Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Dec. 18 2011

Two African-American brothers and their aging father first evade and then confront the issues bedeviling their lives in Nathan Louis Jackson's 2009 slice-of-life comedy. Jackson handles familiar situations—the most catastrophic being the father's increasing senility—with remarkably fresh eyes. His character development is unhurried and organic, and his dialogue is real and funny. Runako Jahi's four-member ensemble revel in the best elements of the script and never indulge its potential for bathos. Randle Michael is particularly adept as the ne'er-do-well brother stuck in a job he hates and a marriage he's increasingly ambivalent about. —Jack Helbig
