Soprano Brygida Bziukiewicz has a sweet, limpid, breathtaking voice, nicely suited for the role of exquisite sufferer in the tragedies of Donizetti, Verdi, and Puccini. The former Miss Poland, a regular on Chicago's operatic circuit and a prima donna with the local Lincoln Opera, has gathered quite a following at the relatively young age of 29, and one of her admirers is filmmaker Jeffrey Hoge. A Columbia College graduate, Hoge heads an outfit called Opera Films, Inc., whose mission is to bring the operatic experience to the public through television--rather like PBS does with its occasional telecasts of Metropolitan Opera productions and such. Hoge has signed up Bziukiewicz for his first project, a 16-millimeter black-and-white adaptation of Puccini's Suor Angelica, one of the three hour-long operas that make up the tryptich Il trittico; this part tells the story of a girl forced into a nunnery for having a child out of wedlock. Hoge and his partner Louis Antonelli have shot one segment showcasing a radiant Bziukiewicz as the eponymous heroine, and they're now looking for money to complete the film. Judging by the demo reel, which will be screened at this benefit recital, they're onto something wonderful. Bziukiewicz will take center stage in arias and duets from, among others, La traviata and Don Giovanni; joining the budding diva will be baritone William Diana and tenor Calland Metts. Sunday, 7 PM, HotHouse, 1565 N. Milwaukee; 975-9176.
