What's not to like about an extreme close-up of a praying mantis meticulously eating the head off a fly? This British large-format documentary by Mike Slee pulls us into the verdant rain forest to get up close and personal with a caterpillar and the aforementioned mantis (though the camera may desert both occasionally to watch a weevil attacking a rotten banana with its proboscis or a pair of rhinoceros beetles beating the tar out of each other). The film is narrated by Judi Dench, who tries to impart some dignity to the scurrying stars, and presented by Terminix, which is a little like Chicken Run being presented by Tyson. But I was hypnotized throughout by the insects' spindly beauty. 40 min.
