Bunbury Me: A Lecture The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Jan. 24 2009

Writer-performer Todd Frugia travels a roundabout road to nowhere in this Rooms Productions show directed by his wife, Marrakesh. Adopting the persona of a pompous buffoon, Frugia uses equations, diagrams, and literary allusions to lecture on death, the nature of identity, the influence of Christianity and science on thought, and the relative importance of various body parts to sex and digestion. It might sound like one of the pseudointellectual monologues Second City's legendary Severn Darden delivered as Professor Walther von der Vogelweide in the 1960s, but Frugia's talk isn't funny. Or thought provoking. Filled with convoluted sentences and odd circumlocutions, the piece only made me wonder what his intention was in writing it. --Laura Molzahn
