Burger Records is a combination label, record store, and art collective devoted to jangly garage rock and laid-back vibes, and it’s helped turn a small corner of the cultural wasteland of Orange County, California, into a slacker utopia. While Burger is best known as one of the premier cassette-revival labels, the people behind it are also big on community-building events, including festivals and package tours of Burger-related acts. Headlining this stop on the current Burgerama tour are the Growlers, a shambolic five-piece from Costa Mesa whose upcoming EP, Gilded Pleasures (out 11/12 on Everloving Records), combines elements from the most ramshackle phases of Harry Nilsson’s and Bob Dylan’s careers. Below them on the bill (among several other acts) are the Cosmonauts, from Fullerton, California, who capture suburban ennui in a matrix of psychedelic Krautpunk drone, and the poppy, punky Together Pangea, from the other side of LA in Santa Clarita, who sometimes sound like an 80s college-rock band and sometimes sound like a thrift-store Kiss. —Miles Raymer The Growlers headline; the Cosmonauts, Gap Dream, Together Pangea, White Mystery, White Fang, and Colleen Green open.
