Burlesque Is More Recommended Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Saturdays. Continues through July 13 2013

Annoyance founder Mick Napier directs this boisterous remount of the improv burlesque revue, which tramples with stiletto heels on several neo-burlesque credos. Set in an exotic dance club, it ignores the ballyhooed conceptual divide between striptease and burlesque—yet life goes on. In ensemble-devised monologues delivered before their routines, 12 bewitching female cast members establish a range of quirky, atypically sexy characters: Palestinian-American janitor, adjunct professor of gender studies, poultry plant worker. Wearing the protective garb of comedy, they get to acknowledge the smuttier aspects of burlesque and move on, in weird, fun dance numbers. As the lovably sleazy club owner, Tim Heurlin emcees the show with a steady comic hand. —Keith Griffith
