When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 18 2012

Lanford Wilson's 1987 script offers a soapy romance about mismatched lovers drawn together by shared grief. Anna is a choreographer working in New York's downtown avant-garde dance scene; when her artistic partner, Robbie, dies, she's drawn unwillingly but inevitably into a passionate, volatile relationship with Pale, Robbie's coke-snortin', gun-totin' roughneck brother. Sideline commentary is provided by Anna's gay roommate, Larry. Meanwhile, Anna's dutiful boyfriend, Burt, gets lost in the shuffle. Under Linda Gillum's direction, the Shattered Globe Theatre ensemble deftly negotiate the verbal pyrotechnics, campy quips, and physical violence in this actors' showpiece. But their best efforts can't make Wilson's clockwork drama resonate with truthfulness. —Albert Williams
