To the editors:

I would like to thank you for two excellent complementary articles published in your April 13 issue. The first, "How to Succeed in High Tech," shows how delicate a new business is and the tremendous work it takes to make it profitable. Then in "The Terminator" Kevin McManus details the difficulties involved in firing unsuitable employees. One can easily imagine a small company being fatally weakened by an unwise hiring decision that it can't reverse without facing an equally deadly lawsuit. Anyone who suggested that an employee should have to justify quitting as carefully as an employer must now justify firing would be accused of advocating slavery.
