When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Oct. 24 2015

Intellectual property attorney Hamilton has been summoned to the police station at 3 AM. A hobbled old man who speaks no English was dumped there, and attached to the meat hook around his neck is Hamilton’s business card. When translator Elena arrives, she insists the old man may be a Slavic war criminal—and no one, including Hamilton, may be who he or she seems. Canadian playwright Nicolas Billon concocts a couple too many plot twists in this gripping 2014 psychological thriller, but with grotesque cunning he exposes the futility of justice when confronting epic crimes against humanity. Signal Ensemble director Bries Vannon needs 20 minutes to get the play in gear, but once he does, his cast never flinch from the script’s exacting demands. —Justin Hayford
