When: Thu., June 27, 10 p.m. 2013

No one in hip-hop right now is keeping Lil Kim’s outrageously bitchy, ambitiously raunchy, and relentlessly entertaining spirit alive better than Cakes da Killa. Depending on your worldview, you may or may not find the fact that he’s a gay man ironic, but he can “spit that shit that make a homophobe a hypocrite,” as he boasts on January’s mixtape The Eulogy—so if you do, that’s probably a temporary situation. The Eulogy is just about the funnest rap record of the year, animated not only by Cakes’s seriously impressive flow (and the manic collision of high-speed beats and endearingly obnoxious synths he raps over) but also by a hilariously pornographic spirit that demands the dirtiest of dancing. If you’re a pop entertainer, you probably hope that at least some of your audience gets laid after your concert—Cakes, on the other hand, seems like he’d be seriously let down if even a single person he raps for doesn’t go straight from the show to doing the kind of sex things that you can still get arrested for. —Miles Raymer The-Drum, Aceboombap, 1wo, and Mister Wallace open.
