Mirella Halfar finds drama in mundane objects: the German artist's tempera paintings and charcoal drawings are populated with societies of cups, families of snapshots, interludes between knives and forks. An exhibit of her work, titled "An Oddity Is Presented," which includes the 1990 charcoal Pair Casserole I (left), opens Friday, June 24, at Gallery 1616, at 1616 N. Damen. On exhibit through August 6 are not only Halfar's paintings and drawings, but also the paint-spattered bowls, pots, and jars from which she works. The free reception runs from 6 to 9; the gallery's open Tuesday and Thursday 6 to 9, Saturday noon to 5, and other times by appointment. Call 489-5492.
