Artist Brian Ostroff used to draw on napkins for tips. For his new show, "An Americanned Boy," he's moved on to larger items like old photographs, garden gates, and basketball backboards, taking inspiration from rock music and artists like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. "I try to stay away from angst-ridden artwork," he says. Indeed, much of his work betrays a colorful comic book influence. His first exhibit is also the inaugural show of the Jacqueline Ross Gallery, 1900 S. Halsted; besides the usual munchies, this Friday's free opening will feature go-go dancers and performances by members of the Xsight! Performance Group. The reception takes place from 7 until midnight. Call 312-226-2828 for more information.
