Capricious Summer

Czech director Jiri Menzel followed his internationally successful Closely Watched Trains with this 1967 comedy about an acrobat (played by Menzel himself) who invades the peace and tranquillity of a small resort town. Charming enough, but Menzel's work clearly represents the calculated commercial side of the Czech New Wave, in strong contrast to the deeper explorations of Milos Forman and Ivan Passer. Based on a novel by the Czech writer Vladislav Vancura.
