This could be the year of the Cashmere Cat. The Norwegian producer Magnus August Høiberg crept into the consciousness of mainstream pop in 2014 with a production credit on Ariana Grande’s sophomore record, My Everything (Republic). Now the 27-year-old is opening for the young superstar on her Honeymoon Tour, and he’s been hinting on social media that his debut full-length will be out this year. He also just coproduced the Kanye West track “Wolves,” which debuted at New York Fashion Week and features guest contributions from Sia and Vic Mensa. Like Arca in 2013, when the Venezuelan garnered producer credits with both West and FKA Twigs, Cashmere Cat was handpicked for album production by pop-culture behemoths well before he got the chance to release an album of his own. But if the two EPs he’s dropped thus far are any indication, a full record of his slick, playful compositions is going to be worth the wait. If you want to get your ears on the jams early, he’ll likely demo the new stuff tonight. —Sasha Geffen
