Chandni Chowk to China

In this multicultural action comedy, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar plays a childlike fast-food chef in a Delhi market district who finds a potato with the likeness of the Hindu god Ganesh. Feeling touched by the divine, he's susceptible to the claims of two Chinese villagers that he's reincarnated from a fabled warrior and destined to save them from a thug back home (Gordon Liu, riffing on Oddjob in Goldfinger). The bumbling cook tangles with twin Sino-Indian beauties (Revlon model Deepika Padukone in a dual role) before taking up martial arts to become a man on the ramparts of China's Great Wall. Of some interest for promoting rapprochement between India and China, this is still awfully silly. In Hindi with subtitles. Nikhil Advani directed. PG-13, 140 min.
